In case of emergency – Call 112 directly with your videophone

SOS Alarm, together with the technology company Omnitor made it possible for deaf people who use video phone to establish direct connection with the emergency services on 112 - through the videophone!

As part of the EU project REACH 112, SOS Alarm and Omnitor has now set up a separate relay service for communication and interpretation of emergency calls to 112 from videophones. Previously, users of video phones have been referred to the national relay service for video calls in case they needed to contact the emergency services number 112. This has often been associated with waiting times and limited hours. Now this group can come into direct contact with the emergency number 112. Interpreters are available to interpret calls 24/7 and these interpreters only accept emergency calls.

When a user of a videophone contact the emergency number 112 he will see two boxes in his video phone, one shows the 112 operator and the second one shows the interpreter who interpret the call between the user and the emergency services. During the year that the pilot project is on, everyone that has a videophone from Omnitor will be able to make direct calls to emergency services 112th

"For us as a company with great connection with the group of deaf and hard of hearing, it feels like a privilege to be part of this. Access to 112 is something that should be easy for all citizens, regardless of whether you have a disability or not" says Örjan Fallheden, CEO of Omnitor.

"SOS Alarm is working for a safer society. We are very pleased to partner with Omnitor and hope that those who use the service during the pilotproject, find it easier for them to communicate with the emergency number 112 via video telephony" says Johan Hedensiö CEO of SOS Alarm.
